..The Rhode Island is a strong-willed design, in which the contrast between the more slimline shapes and the width of the strap-work creates an element of tension. This is what makes the Rhode Island, with its modern design, so intriguing. The strap-work was inspired by a leather belt. The width of this belt could produce a very bulky and pompous effect, however the aluminium frame actually lends the design a sense of lightness, once again creating tension through contrast.
